My final year project is a 2D animated piece that was a mixture of digital and traditional hand drawn animation. Water colour paint was the method used for the background, the reasoning behind this technique was to hearken back to old cartoons and use the methods they once used. Then through composting and interacting with software to give a final polish and bring it into contemporary times, to combine both old and new.
The theme that my final year project centres around is family. I explored this through an elderly man character coming to a familiar bench and feeding the aquatic birds in the nearby lake.
The animation explores clinging to cherished memories and the feeling of not wanting to let go. Although we often wish to go back to those beloved times or have those beloved family members back in our life, there is a comforting thought that we have a future to create new loving moments with family and to pass on beloved memories onto them. The piece shows that it is never too late to make new cherished memories and sowing the seeds of passing on family traditions to the next branch of the family tree.
