Scavanging
Scavanging, is inspired by my experience in the Irish festival scene. Scavanging is a festival ritual of my group who scour the desolate post festival site to see what festival goers leave behind. Thousands of festival goers leave their tents behind each summer which creates a huge waste issue, adding to already imploding landfill. This material is ideal for festival rave wear as it is waterproof, windproof and fire retardant, which is why I am using salvaged tents from Body and Soul festival as the outerwear elements of my collection. Including a coat, a raver jacket, a rain poncho dress, and a boiler suit incorporating the original tent features like zips and toggles, aiming to waste as little as possible. Colloquial language and slang feature in my collection, as it plays a significant role in the festival scene amongst my friends. Illustrations featuring in my collection are of my own character loosely based on myself, RAVELIEN: a rave alien. A free, fun, loose lover of life, peaceful, out of this world raver. My collection consisting of six festival friendly looks, is an optimistic energetic approach to minimizing a worldwide landfill issue.
