Gone For A Walk
Shannon is an artist currently exploring themes of memory and perception through various methods in her practice. There is a strong focus on the use of a stereoscope to interact with doubled photographs and paintings. The use of this 18th century object was initially intended for use with photographs. By adopting the technicalities necessary to create a stereoscopic image within painting she hopes that the interaction will allow the viewer to reflect deeper on the hallucinate image seen in the scope. This method of viewing could lend itself to a tangible approach of physically seeing memories. Somewhere you can be transported within the mind.
The images that present themselves within the work are a collage of references from photographs she has taken herself of ‘fleeting moments’. The banal and mundane subject matter that are being presented are paired with a muted dreamlike colour palette. The images are a platform for the viewer to participate and create a narrative that is unique to themselves.
