Monomyth
Over the course of a person’s life they will inevitably encounter adversity, hardship and loss. “Monomyth” expresses the isolation, fear, guilt and pain associated with grief and the struggle all people have when they lose something that is a part of them.
We follow a lone character, Jak, as he makes his pilgrimage through harsh, unforgiving terrain. People often try to find a way of paying homage or making amends to the ones they have lost and Jak is on this pilgrim journey. As he struggles to traverse the hostile landscape he also wrestles with the turmoil deep within his broken inner self. The harsh journey that Jak is on is reflective of his effort to acknowledge his grief, reconcile the loss and finally integrate it into his being. Jak attempts to resolve his grief through this ritualistic pilgrimage which will hopefully allow him to move forward carrying his loss with dignity and greater serenity.
The expression of human emotion is as individual as each human being, yet there is a collective, global, or even universal understanding of these varied emotions. Jak’s story is but a single example of the universal phenomenon of loss.
