Sorceress
My animation is a promo for a light-hearted skit I wrote about a visit by King John to his new castle at Kings Island, Limerick in 1220. In short, King John’s soldiers suffer the wrath of the Irish weather on their journey to Limerick, and begin dying from influenza on arrival. Fearing for his safety, King John enlists the services of a powerful sorceress, who promises to resurrect the dead men. Naturally things do not go to plan.
Influenced by the work of Aardman Studios, Laika and Tim Burton, I have created a sense of drama through the effective use of atmospheric lighting and camera work. I believe that stop-motion is a great tool for making this connection. I chose traditional stop-motion animation as I enjoy the physical artistry involved. In a time of rapidly advancing digital animation, there is still an encouraging interest in stop-motion. I believe people appreciate the level of work and dedication applied to this craft—this is what inspires me.
