Liam Ó Cionnfhaolaidh

Puzzle Pirates is a 2D genre fusion between block puzzle games, such as Candy Crush and Tetris, and top-down bullet hell shooters, such as Enter the Gungeon and the Binding of Isaac. The player will take on the role of Captain Blanc fighting to take back their section of the ocean from the Pirate Coalition. By using the mouse, the player matches blocks of the same colour and icon, damaging foes that shoot from the outside of the board. This exhilarating game of highspeed strategy is aimed at teenagers and young adults. 

This project being built on combining two very separate genres results in both very different and very similar emotions being combined. Matching block games usually aim to give a feeling of zen, earned after many hours of work. Ever heard of the Tetris Effect? People can easily find themselves sinking hours upon hours into these games. Games in this genre can initially be infuriating and panic inducing, but eventually through practise, players find a sort of peace where clearing lines of coloured blocks is second nature.
