What is a home?
The lack of diversity profoundly impacts marginalized communities, highlighting the need for inclusive portrayals to reshape public perceptions and foster understanding. Creating characters reflective of underrepresented complexions emphasises the ongoing importance of feminist discourse and the fight against racial bias, promoting equity and inclusivity in societal narratives.
Based on the research conducted this project is a response to the final project brief “What is a home?”. Home can have many meanings and the designers poem reflects on the different meanings and personal experiences, while conveying this through the medium of animation. The story focuses on a character who struggles with their identity and what home means. The animation visualizes the poem written by the designer that talks about the different meanings that home can have and what it can mean to the individual.
The story also talks about the struggle with identity, trying to find yourself and feeling like you belong into the world around you. The designer decided to use their own style in the animation to underline the personal connection to the subject. The animation combines both original illustrations and video footage.
