Everything wants to sing with us
My work is exploring the complexities of anthropocentrism and
how humans have drastically altered the environment and continue to exploit fellow species,
landscape and atmosphere.
My practice is concerned with our disconnection from nature and how it affects our behaviour,
relationships, physiology and in turn, our well-being… not to mention that of other organisms.
Through performance and soliloquy, I have connected with nature in interactive and enjoyable ways,
including my ability to foster happiness through dance, skipping and other physical activities.
I have recognized harmful impacts of the industrial revolution. The noise we hear every day is strong
evidence of the energetic emissions. I have begun gathering field recordings of various geophany,
biophany and anthrophany (healthy and unhealthy sounds that surround us).
For this exhibition, an immersive surround sound installation re-imagines the sonic environment of
urban areas – inviting the audience to experience acousmatic compositions of: a supermarket, a
hospital, a playground and a road. The sites are mapped in representation of how we may encounter
them during an urban soundwalk.
I have created site-specific albums (available on bandcamp) which depict my perspective of the chosen
environments, through the musical use of found sounds and my emotional human voice.
