Kacie Daly

Kacie is a Limerick-based fine artist whose work centres around female experience. Her work explores themes of religion, sexuality and horror with reference to feminism.

This particular body of work is largely inspired by catholic Ireland and the demonization of womanhood, looking at women as evil beings. When a woman steps out of societies perceived roles for her she is vilified, the aim of this work is to embrace female anger, power and sexuality.

This set of drawings makes reference to the portrayal of women in 1950s advertisements, pulp horror posters and men’s interest magazines; responding to them in a satirical manner. Kacie uses humour in her work to alleviate topics of patriarchal oppression and her personal relationship with the male gaze as a queer woman.

The simple colour palate of red and black on white paper is a deliberate choice by the artist to reinforce the idea of evil and sin throughout the work.
