Jacek Kaludzinski
Celebration of beauty and joy through excess
Jacek Kaludzinski is a Polish artist currently residing in Ireland. The aims of his work is exploration into different areas of image making. He explores how images react off of each other and what meaning is generated in the space between them while they interact on the canvas. He is looking at how the meaning of an image, object changes depending on the way it’s painted, what does the way we paint things tells us about ourselves psychologically or ideologically and what does it say about our understanding of the subject. His research process begins with scouring the internet or books for interesting imagery. Usually the painting process starts with a singular image and then another one is added that would fit or work well with it, which then grows exponentially as he tries to find images that will further create more connections, jumping off points, points of comparison, mirrors that will multiply other object’s meanings by reflecting and interacting with each other. As we are inundated with imagery in the modern world the artist wants to translate these excesses of the internet into maximalist compositions. He also integrates historical as well as contemporary imagery as to spark a dialogue between the past and the present and to observe how the two interact. The reason for his exploration into imagery is the search for meaning within the post-modern world. As the classical beliefs have dissipated and we have lost structures which we could believe, we have to search, discover and create meaning ourselves. With these paintings the artist hopes to create a space for exploration for both the viewer and himself, a collaborative process where both parties create their own meaning. The artist aims to inspire joy in the viewer through experimental use of imagery and paint, creating innovative works and through the work process the artist hopes to push the medium of painting through experimentation and a joy oriented approach to creation.
