Disorder
Disorder is a short stop motion piece concerned with psychosis. It is an examination of how the mind can alter the perception of reality. The piece sheds light onto the condition of psychosis, it is informative and intended to spread awareness on this illness. Responding to primary and secondary sources Disorder is a portrayal of how psychosis can develop.
“I remember once, I could not understand if I was actually alive and my whole life was a lie/ dream or if I was dead and in an unconscious state. I couldn’t actually tell the difference between the two.”
A quote from musician, Tash Sultana, reflects her experiences with psychosis. A simple walk in the forest, something that everyone has experienced is exaggerated into a completely new perspective. The animation is not about who the character is, as psychosis can happen to anyone and can be brought on by many things. It is more about the experience of psychosis itself and how it can alter a once familiar space.
A dreamlike state is created through atmospheric lighting, sound, and the application of vibrant colour on a surreal blank background. The stop motion technique creating a fragmented feeling throughout.
