This joint project by Elina Burykina and Edmund Murphy showcases a wonderful world of sky pirates, fantastical creatures, explorers and adventure! Throughout the trailer we meet a diverse cast of characters across three different sky island regions. Our aim was to invoke feelings of fun, exploration and adventure for our audience!
We chose the trailer format as it would allow us to adapt the project’s different sections to suit our learning and portfolio needs. We both explored styles different to our usual and gained experience working as a team of two!
Edmund created the layouts and backgrounds for the project, focusing on perspective, shot variety and adapting to a painterly background style. Edmund was the primary character designer, creating all of the humanoid characters. He also served as our compositor.
Elina was the project’s animator, breathing life into our many characters. Her focus was on clean-line character animation, exploring body mechanics and perspective. Additionally she designed the creature characters who inhabit the jungle region.
