DON'T GET NOTICED JUST FOR SMOKING
The following proposal is based and materialised from my work placement over the summer months with TRYS (Tipperary regional youths service). The purpose and my main aim was to introduce and organise with the organisation in multimedia projects. Raise awareness to the benefits of incorporating creative multimedia as tool to engaging, educate and facilitate in youth services.
Following several meetings and discussions with some of the senior staff I have decided I would like to continue working with the organisation on other projects which would be of benefit to me and the organisation.
My proposal is an Educational Animation; my aim is create an animation that highlights the effects of smoking and the consequences of smoking to your health. The challenge throughout this process is to visual represent the dangers of smoking for your health but also to convince the modern teenager that smoking will not guarantee social acceptance within a peer environment. There is substantial peer group homogeneity with respect to adolescent smoking and other substance use. This is to say that adolescents with friends who smoke are likely to smoke themselves or to take up smoking over time. The reverse is also the case that adolescents without friends who smoke are less likely to take up smoking than adolescents with friends who smoke.
Don’t get noticed just for smoking could have a national profile as it was funded by the Irish Cancer Society.
The technique used will be rotoscoping. Rotoscoping is an animation technique in which animators trace over footage, frame by frame, for use in live-action and animated films. This will give the production a sense of realism in its movement but maintain an animation look and feel. The animation from start to finish is 60-80 seconds long.
