Democracy of Sound
Digital technologies are profoundly altering the way people produce, transmit, and consume music. Furthermore, technological developments are contributing to a sea change in the social organization of musical practices, challenging earlier paradigms of ownership, creativity, and human agency.
Democracy of Sound is an investigation into digital technologies ability to democratize the creative process, specifically the process of music making. An interactive website and a supplementary document have been developed for the project in order to communicate the benefits of creating music using digital technology. The project also documents how music making has come full circle, no longer ruled by the professional music industry but driven by the amateur musician. The aim of the piece is to educate and break down the misconceptions around amateur creativity and the benefits of making.
