Michael O’Connor Poster Collection
The Michael O’Connor Poster Collection was donated to Limerick City Gallery of Art in 1989. It is comprised of approximately 2800 posters of international derivation. It is an eclectic collection of posters containing work from all around the world celebrating film posters, theatre posters and other event posters. The posters have been amassed over 20 years. It is part of LCAs permanent gallery collection, yet they are not on display. With this problem in mind, we designed an app that displays the posters for easy viewing and accessible for all through a corporation called Planchest.
The concept revolves around community, as our target market are creatives and students who have an interest in poster design, therefor collaboration is key for this app. The app has a private and public forum, so the Michael O’Connor community could share knowledge and opinions on the posters with the MyCommunity function. There are also functions so users can add more knowledge on the posters by submitting articles which would be monitored and verified by the staff at the gallery before publishing on the app. We wanted to create an experience that was contemporary and modern for our target market to engage with the Michael O’Connor Collection. This project was completed in collaboration with Janine Leahy and Laura Redmond.
