SWEET DREAMS ARE MADE OF CHEESE
Sweet Dreams are made of Cheese is a short animation inspired by a fever dream I had the night before Halloween 2017. That nightmare kickstarted my fascination with dreams and nightmares. I became interested in the idea that they reveal insight into hidden desires and emotions while assisting in memory formation and problem solving rather than just being a product of random brain activating.
For the animation, I looked at psychoanalysis which interprets dreams as a connection to the unconscious mind. Psychoanalysis regards dreams as manifestations of people’s deepest desires, or in this case anxieties often fixated around repressed childhood memories or obsessions.
My short story follows a man who becomes addicted to a strange new cheese product and starts to suffer from horrible nightmares after consuming the cheese. As time goes on, the man begins to slowly deteriorate physically as he becomes more and more exhausted. The lines between reality and the dream world become blurred as the lack of a good night’s rest begins to take its toll on his body and mind, until finally after being encouraged to seek psychoanalytical assistance he resolves his condition to comical effect
