Free Gaff
Free Gaff is an animated short which focuses on the contrast between order and chaos. It provides a fly-on-the-wall look into a house left abandoned in the wake of some apocalyptic event. The setting, a sleek, modern, manufactured house interior, contrasts a chaotic apocalyptic event occurring outside, which slowly leaks into the pristine ecosystem of the interior. As things progress, chaos begins to take over, slowly infecting the ordered nature of the scene. Lighting and colour are used heavily as a storytelling device to show the slow transition from order to chaos.
To begin, the scene is entirely black and white, and is then coloured only by the various lights that illuminate the scene, originating from the entryway of the house. The lighting transforms the interior from a dimly lit monochrome representation of human design, to a rainbow of colour variation, emphasising the takeover of natural chaos.
