Ealaí Allta
‘Ealaí Allta’ is a love-letter to ageing. Watching yourself and your loved ones grow up is a gratifying privilege that many people don’t appreciate. This short film captures a series of simple moments that portray romanticized interactions between both people and nature.
‘The Wild Swans at Coole’ by William Butler Yeats encapsulates the themes of this animation.
Love, Shame, Fear and Joy are some of the human emotions Yeats conveys throughout this poem. Yeats describes the fragility of life as he reminisces about his youth, conquest to conquer. The poem describes these memories with a sense of melancholy, as his youth has escaped him, never to become a real experience again. They will forever remain a memory.
However, as our youth slips away we gain more and more individual experiences. With each smile line comes a laugh and a story.
The feeling of nostalgia is captured through the stylized brushstrokes. Everything seems blurred and imperfect almost like a distant memory. This piece was animated with the intentions of replicating an oil painting; a still fabrication of what once was, resurrected into a moving image in real time.
