Ciar O’Donoghue

For this project, I wanted to focus on building my portfolio toward gaining a position in Storyboarding.  

Storyboarding is the role in animation, film, and game, that take a script of a sequence and visualises how the piece is composed- from acting to camera movements. 

This project allowed me to research storyboarding in the industry as well as practice and hone my skills by creating work to be included in my showreel and on my portfolio website. 

During this project, I created two animatics and pre-production package to support these animatics. The animatics, one actions based and one dialogue based, to allow myself to try my hand at two types of scenes. These scenes use the same anthropomorphic monkey characters, world, and central idea of a supermarket.  

The action animatic portrays the squabble between two monkeys over a misplaced plastic bag, leading them to racing down hillsides in a shopping trolley. 

The dialogue animatic takes audio from a scene from the Netflix show “Good girls” and reframed it in context to the characters that I have created. The scene was recreated with new context, blocking and staging.
