Graphic Digital Design Year 4
Calvin Duke
The Mind of a Creator
At the beginning of this module, the task was to choose a topic that could be seen as an issue and depict it in a creative fashion. After much consideration and brainstorming, the designer delved into the topic of Alice in wonderland and upon viewing the 1951 adaptation, noticed the correlation between Alice feeling lost with low self-esteem and themselves as a creator. The aim was to display this in a way that engages with a target audience that has the same mindset, mainly those in a creative industry who will experience mental block and doubts about their work.
After many attempts that didn’t reach the standard looked for, the designer feels pleased with the result as it seems to spread the message they were hoping for. Using a single scene, sound effects and quick paced narration, the film is simplistic yet effective to the message. In addition, the designer has developed their skills as a filmmaker further and the skill of creating under pressure as the final result needed the be created rapidly for the approaching deadline. Overall, the task was at first a threatening endeavour but a great experience that educated on a variety of topics.
