Fragments
My work explores the idealisation of past experiences and how multiple perspectives can change the way a shared experience is remembered. The main motivation for my project is my own interest in theories relating to memory with my visual focus being on landscapes. This audiovisual installation aims to give the viewers a representation of the mental process of idealisation and contrasting recollections using three locations that are of personal significance to me and where I grew up. The space creates a physical representation of how fragments of memory may often be idealised and therefore shared experiences can vary in recollection and mood.
The projection mapping display compliments the concept as the immersive environment allows the viewers to absorb themselves in these locations. The projection mapping software gives depth to the footage by projecting onto 3D objects and reinforces the concept as these objects relate back to elements within the chosen locations around county Galway. The project combines photography, video footage, recorded practical experimentations and digital edits. Together these create abstract environments that do not faithfully represent experiences in order to convey memory as an opinion.
