Aoife Costello
Aoife Costello explores performance art and using the body as a medium through the lens of a camera, looking at a series of stills and video documentation. Throughout her performances she is seen in a trance-like state and ventures out into different landscapes to find ‘the other’. The use of the female body as a way to engage with the body as a site of lived realities from the past and using the archives from her own family’s past is the core of her concepts. Throughout her experimentation of performances she focuses on body movement and colour grading and how that communicates with her audience behind a lens of a camera.
After completing her photobook Milk Witch in April. Aoife begins another performance in relation to her first short story. Using milk as a medium in this performance the artist very slowly begins to try opening her mouth to tell the tale of Milk Witch, the milk leaks down past her chin making it impossible for the performer to speak. The sound is also performed originally by the artist using an empty tin can that is mentioned in the short story .
