Ann Conmy
Port a beul / Tunes from the mouth
Ann Conmy is a combined media artist from the west of Ireland.
The importance and interaction of play and ritual are central themes explored in her practice. Changing materials from one state to another as a metaphor for sociological frameworks.
With the knowledge that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Energy being conducted pole to pole, through all life force, wind and sea, is a constant site of enquiry This translates into a dialectical network of events and actions we cannot escape.
Ann’s work celebrates joyous resistances such as the phenomena of “lilting” of “gob music” which became popular when musical instruments were banned in Ireland in the 1600’s. The idea of resisting oppressions with joy. The process of becoming unbound and unwound.
This work is about the everyday and ordinary voices. It gives significance to the journeys we all make, that were made, exploring ontological psychogeography.
