@Social Isolation
@Social Isolation is a collection of work based on the loss of interpersonal connection in the post-internet world, and the ramifications that come with it.
This work draws its inspiration from social media platforms driven by user created content.
In an increasingly image driven age from Instagram to Facebook the ideals of social media is to connect, bring together and integrate people into each other’s lives. Oftentimes the reverse is true. Looking through the black mirror, Slattery explores the darker side of this torrent of imagery. Often dealing with ideas of depression and disillusionment and how window shopping for a substantial existence through a screen leaves the viewer often times empty and unfulfilled. Taking bright imagery and current popular trends, Slattery conveys the zeitgeist of the cyber socialites unwilling to engage with a world that no longer matches up with their digital dystopia.
