My collection is inspired by a piece by Andy Goldsworthy, titled ‘Wood, Water, Sheep and Stone’. Andy Goldsworthy builds his sculptures using materials from the natural environment which surrounds him and allows them to breakdown or decay naturally, through environmental processes and time, documenting the process. I adapted this same technique in my design process, so that my collection suggests how to breakdown would occur through, breaking, and separating of structure and materials.
Movement, change, light, and decay are all essential elements in Andy Goldsworthy’s work and become important aspects of my collection also. I brought this idea of growth and decay through in my collection with my creative use of texture.
I have decided to use all-natural fabrics, I chose my fabrics in response to Andy Goldsworthy’s work. Linen as a representation of wood, and silk organza which symbolises the flowing waters and sheepskin which is also used in his work.
I have created a collection which is earthy, raw natural and fresh. I want it to feel stimulating like nature itself. The purpose of the collection is to serve as a reminder that things which appear delicate are more powerful than they are perceived.
