Observational Self-Portrait drawing leading onto self-portrait relief clay tiles
Fifth year students
Using a mirror to draw their self-portrait students drew influence from other artist work and experimented with a variety of mediums before deciding on their preferred medium to complete their finished work. This work then lead to the development of relief tiles using facial elements from their portrait study to mould and craft into high and low relief tiles. The tiles were painted in white acrylic paint to emphasise the relief work with the casting of shadows.
Scheme: 3D Assemblage, using discarded objects to portray the word ‘Change’ in creating 3D robot-looking figure.
First year students
The students work was inspired by the contemporary sculptor & assemblage artist Eric Nado. The scheme was to develop an interesting character built from discarded ’junk’ that evoked the human form. They explored a variety of different possibilities and played with different selected parts to come up with an appealing arrangement which told a story and gave life to the character. The students made drawings, diagrams and experimented with coloured card looking at shapes, forms, size and scale which helped to inform their final character.
Short Course Scheme: Creation of backdrops & props for the stage production of ‘High School Musical’
Second year students
The students created backdrops with compositions which helped to set the scene of the production. They created stage props such as crazy glasses and headgear and found inspiration from high end haute couture designers and developed their work using a wide range of materials such as plastic, cardboard, tinfoil, and wire to create structure. They embellished them with strips of fabric, paper, spray paint and glitter to achieve impact in their creations on stage.
