Life’s Little Moments
‘The Oofles’ are a series of creature character designs that embody particular common comforts and annoyances. My animation and character designs in, ‘Life’s Little Moments’ is influenced by the basic concept of Japanese Shinto beliefs. Shinto means everything whether animate or inanimate has a soul or essence of life. I took this basic concept and reapplied it to some of humanity’s basic mental and emotional states. It is through these feelings of both comfort and annoyance that, ‘The Oofles’ are born.
We follow ‘The Oofles’ to examine how they act and interact in the real world. The animation uses clean, minimalist line work supported with splashes the colour. The targeted use of colour serves to emphasise the main characteristics of each of ‘The Oofles’. I like to approach my work in a simple, sketch-like style with an element of humour. These harmless and playful animations can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The animation is accompanied by maquettes; clay models which were created as a part of the character design process.
