The Way It Was
My animated short The Way It Was follows a character displaced in time, who upon wakening finds the land she once knew barely recognisable. In search of answers, she travels towards the only feature still recognisable to her, a spire still visible in the distance.
My work examines the idea of losing a connection to a once important place. The feeling of sadness that arises when you realise that things change even when you’re not there to witness them.
My animation focuses on the character moving through surroundings where either she is seen to be different, or the environment itself has changed beyond her recognition. A stranger in a strange land. Through the use of changing landscapes I contrast the world that the character has come from and the world that she wakes to find. My piece has a muted colour palette to emphasise the loneliness the character feels.
