NATURE AND ITS CONNECTION WITH SPACE AND PLACE
Lily Fitzpatrick is a visual artist based in North Tipperary. Fitzpatrick’s interest is rooted in nature and its ever-changing hues and rhythmic patterns, drawing inspiration from the organic nature of the natural domestic landscape capturing moments in space and place. Trees, flowers and nature are her focus, but she avoids direct imitations of the surrounding area preferring to express the emotions that these places invoke in her. Fitzpatrick aspires for her work to encapsulate the vibrant beauty of nature portraying its lively transformations and delicate vulnerability while offering a fresh perspective on the beauty of the natural landscape. The artist explores the relationship between abstract and representation, examining how they can be combined to convey emotions, narratives and a sense of place and space in her own locality. Fitzpatrick aims to represent emotion through abstraction and a pallet of warm colours which infer heightened emotion.
Nature is a place we go to repair from the natural world and for Fitzpatrick, the act of walking becomes a way of looking at the interplay between the body, imagination and the natural world around us. Through art, Fitzpatrick turns her back on the economic reality of landscape and finds a path to imagination, an essential element for all artists. Painting, for her, transmits nature to canvas. Connecting her paintings to the act of walking, Fitzpatrick can see the path is not always straight. It bends and curves and inspiration is drawn from these experiences, lending a touch of mystery to her work.
