Graphic Digital Design Year 3

GREY MATTERS
Witness my brain’s development. Experiencing some darker time left my mind seeing grey. I took myself out of the darkness into vibrance, seeing colour.
The brain is the most complex organ in the body. There are many layers and through experimentations, scientists have found it can remain alive if connected to an artificial system. As long as there is brain activity, there remains a chance for happiness to grow within the brain.
The left side of the human brain is said to be analytical, logical and structured. The right side is more creative, free, and imaginative and the limbic system connects it all.
There are 3 parts to this book – The Left, The Limbic System and The Right, with narration by 3 different voices – Science, Quotes and me. Each voice is shown through different types.
Visually the left side is black and white, it is organized and structured clearly with some red to symbolize pain as depression is housed in the left side of the brain. There are some scientific facts throughout each part, however, there are more words of encouragement than self-doubt showing a light at the end of the tunnel and persistence through darkness.
The limbic system is in various shades of grey. It houses gray matter and supposedly the more of this we have the happier we will be. It’s full of serotonin and pulled together by red thread. If we keep this connection alive, there’s possibility of growing our gray matter and becoming happier within our minds.
The right side is our colourful side, it’s abstract and vibrant.
I included my own voice and opinions because sometimes science is wrong. There is no room for logic among emotions and there isn’t a linear pathway to happiness. This book shows so many words, voices, pathways and textures, all of which are housed among layers of complexities.
