OUT OF TOUCH OUT OF MIND
“OUT OF TOUCH OUT OF MIND” aims to address the disconnection among individuals in industrialised nations. Despite technological advancements, humanity is drifting apart due to personal gain, convenience, and overindulgence. This self-centeredness impedes community and communication, leading to a loss of touch with nature, surroundings, and each other.
Unfortunately, the need for connection and flourishing cannot be replaced by the convenience of modern technology. Humanity must gain consciousness over our sovereignty and actively seek new input and experiences.
The final book design “OUT OF TOUCH OUT OF MIND” explores the idea of disconnecting from the digital world and reconnecting with our senses. Through the use of various sensory stimuli, the book’s 41 pages aim to provide a more immersive and meaningful experience for the holder. Creating a book without relying heavily on digital tools was a deliberate choice, as it aimed to highlight the importance of genuine interaction and communication that can be derived from physical media.
Several techniques were used for the signatures and pages of the book including painting, glueing, sewing, photography, typography, cyanotype, lino print, and working with different polymers.
