Take Up Space
“All spaces are queer spaces because I’m there”
‘Take Up Space’ is a documentary that explores the existence of queer safe spaces in Irish cities.
What constitutes a safe space and can one truly exist in today’s social and political landscape? With no end to the rental and housing crisis in sight and a growing far right presence in the country, how can anybody feel safe?
This documentary highlights the work of a myriad of people, organisations and events that are striving to carve out inclusive and comfortable spaces in Limerick, Galway, Cork and Dublin, while examining some of the issues facing the LGBTQ+ community in Ireland. From the rise of hate crimes and violence in society to issues of consent and transphobia within the community itself.
