Sorry I’m Sexy.
Although it can be a controversial and almost taboo subject to discuss sex and one’s sexuality it has always been something that has fascinated me. It can be a topic that is so often considered shameful to talk about especially with women and sex. My primary sources of inspiration for this project were vintage porn magazines and playboy covers. I was attracted to the playful, charming details on the playboy covers and felt they were vibrant and engaging. I was introduced to all of this study during my internship with knitwear designer Ellis Jaz and working with her has undeniably influenced my research and design decisions. As I delved more into my research, I discovered that I was drawn to body positivity and body empowerment. To demonstrate how distinctive each woman’s body is, I began body printing my own body as well as the bodies of several of my friends. I designed a line of knitwear that fits a variety of body types. My goal was for the majority of viewers to be able to identify with or visualise themselves in the pieces in my collection. This line is intended for those who are unapologetically sexy and proud of their bodies and want to appreciate how they look. I designed my collection to be very layered and covered up contrasting with the tightness of the garments and underwear prints on top to allow for a sexy theme without showing off all of the body. I brought some humorous elements through with my “boobie”/bra printing. I made the collection with very girly aspects such as frilly elements along the edging of some pieces and very bright and playful colours. The colours all complimented one another and really made the collection flow. I hoped that people wearing my collection would feel comfortable and sexy with the garments being very shape wear like and fitted to their specific body type.
