Merimnao Nux
Noun
Derived from Latin, meaning ‘worry’. The word Merimnao stems from the Greek verb merizo (divide) and nous (mind).
Nux is the Latin word for nut.
This story unfolds with a nervous little nut who awakens to the rumbling sound of his own hunger. The house is empty, and he will now have to embark on a journey to the closest shop to get something to eat. Seems like a mundane enough activity, right? Unfortunately, this little nut is extremely afraid of the outside world and is fearful of both its inhabitants and the endless possibilities of what could go wrong. He always feels like he is being watched by everything when he goes anywhere outside the comfort of his own home. Will he be able to acquire the products he needs to survive, or will he let his over-active mind cocoon himself in fear and worry?
Merimnao Nux explores agoraphobia and shows the detrimental effects this phobia has on the mind and well being of a person.
Shot in a 2D cut-out style with many of the backgrounds being hand drawn and digitally coloured. Some real images were used in this animation to give a sense of the character losing grip with reality and being unsure of what is real in his world and what is not.
