Red Forest
This animation is an immersive virtual reality game called Red Forest.
The story is based on a twisted version of The Little Red Riding Hood, all from the perspective of The Wolf.
The Wolf wants to save the forest from the evil that planted itself in its center. The Wolf must make his way through the forest of polygon trees and darkness to find the Mastermind behind the disruption of the forest.
The story is told from the perspective of the wolf, which uses an immersion technique to emotionally manipulate or invest the player into sympathizing with the wolf. That kind of feeling shows how bias can be created by only giving half of the story and can drastically change the perspective and create a completely different narrative.
Scattered throughout the game world, the player can find subtle hints or pieces of information that allows them to slowly piece together the game’s “real” or “hidden” story.
Animation and games share a similar skill set of creation.
Games use special immersive techniques to draw the player into virtual space. Spatial Immersion is the Immersion gained by perceiving maneuvering of objects in the game from the perspective of oneself moving.
“Atmosphere in games is the hidden layer between the artwork, audio, narrative and level design” – Greg Kasavin
