Pitcher of You
Pitcher of You follows the story of urban-hermit Mag (Jess Bertrand), whose soon-to-close family pub is attacked by a vengeful ghostly ancestor (Dean Carey). Mag must reckon with both imminent supernatural possession, and the now broken informal pact that she made to her late father (Éamonn Kent), to walk in his footsteps.
Loosely inspired by Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, the film explores inter-generational obligations, personal failure, and the immortal bond that can exist between parents and their adult children. The Irish pub, and the relationships and futures that live and die through the inheritance of family responsibilities, embody the best and worst of Irish identity. Mag represents those left isolated by such circumstances. The loss of the archetypal pub to time captures, celebrates, and mourns this identity as it transitions.
Songs An Die Nacht by German folk-group Romie and Long Nights in Pokey Places by traditional-Irish music group The Fógues are the musical soulmates of this film. An Die Nacht serves as a plea for togetherness and the stopping of time, and Long Nights in Pokey Places is a celebration of the pub’s place in Ireland’s rich heritage.
