ROBO.Inc – A virtual reality robot mechanic experience
ROBO.Inc is a virtual reality game concept developed by Marvin Rosner. The author focussed on programming in C# for Unity, audio design, voice and SFX, as well as interaction and user experience design. The experience was developed using Unity, with generative audio driven by FMOD. This was the authors first deep-dive into virtual reality development.
While the game design, concepts and 3D art were created by another student, the author developed the mechanics and traversed the virtual reality implementation space to bring the experience to life. In ROBO.lnc, the player is set to work as a robot mechanic for a robot-run mega-corp. They quickly learn that their skills are valuable, as most of the robots in the factory have fallen into disrepair. The demo allows the player to get accustomed to the main mechanics and meet some of the broken robots manning the various positions in the factory. The experience was developed alongside a bachelor thesis for Creative Media and Design, which delves into the currently observable best practice for virtual reality development. Thank you to all the lovely people that supported the development, character writers, voice actors and composers!
