UNTOLD
Untold is a title sequence about lost histories and forgotten folklore. A collection of recognizable icons from Irish history are animated in 3D.
Stories can be lost to history, when they are not passed down through generations. Often it is the case that the retelling of a tragic tale favours a positive anecdote. Typically, the stories we hear concerning women in Irish history focus on the negative tales about the plight of Irish women in 20th century society. In contrast, this animation highlights the heroic stories of Irish women during this time. An unusual storytelling device is incorporated, where the audience never sees the protagonist. Rather, the tempo and pace of the piece are suggestive of her struggles during the Irish War of Independence. A warm and inviting color palette reinforces the message of positive stories.
Inspiration for Untold has come from personal experience and family history. Unveiling this hidden history has evoked a certain sense of pride. What other important accounts of women are deserving of such a retelling?
