Touch
Touch follows the story of a woman from her birth to the birth of her daughter. It reflects on topical issues such as gendered toys, body image, and sexual harassment. This subject matter came about in response to tragic events in the last few months bringing a rise in women’s issues being discussed more in popular media.
The piece attempts to draw further awareness to the subject as it brings you through the experience of growing up as a young girl into a woman and the struggles that come along with it. A lot of these experiences have been normalised in society, Touch attempts to bring these issues forward in a different light giving the viewer a unique perspective on these issues.
Hands have been used to tell stories for centuries, they reflect the deepest emotions in the way they move and interact with objects.
Touch resonates with a lot of people who relate to the events depicted, this is not just one woman’s story, it is the story of anyone who has experienced one or many of the issues portrayed. The story begins and ends with the birth of a woman, eluding that we are stuck in a never-ending cycle formed by society, until these issues stop being normalised the cycle will not end.
We need to break the cycle.
