Pilcrow
Pilcrow is a design collective which promotes and supports a new generation of creatives. This site showcases work, hosts articles, interviews, and promotes members. My intention was to create a site which represented the unique and quirky character of an emerging creative. Throughout the developmental stages, I identified the opportunities this service could provide them with. I wanted to promote members, which I decided to do by creating a ‘spotlight’ section, where users are showcased on the homepage alternating weekly. Through my research, personally I found that the most satisfying experiences I had were those with accurate and consistent feedback. This was reflected in my findings within my thesis, specifically concerning the importance of providing an accurate interaction for the users’ mental models. I made a conscious effort to adhere to Jakob’s law so as not to cause any cognitive friction, but to also provide the user with an exciting experience – therefore aligning well with both ideas. This was done through the navigation option at the bottom, where the user can move through a circular progression of the most important features within the service. This is also reflected in the roll-over feature for each profile image revealing colour.
