REWIND
Having worked for one of the most popular coffee companies in the world, I have had first hand experience on how much waste is produced every single day in these industries. I wanted to bring light to this situation and emphasise the importance of sustainability, because after all, it’s our everyday actions that make a big difference.
REWIND is an animated short about the journey of a single use take-away coffee cup that experiences a series of unfortunate events once he leaves the comforts of his café. Once the cup has served its sole purpose in life – which is to hold a cup of coffee, he is disposed of. After being mistaken for a recyclable material he ends up in a recycling centre but is quickly picked out by a worker and tossed into a pile that will be sent to landfill.
In and among the mountains of landfill, he wanders around aimlessly trying to find a purpose. As time passes, he gets blown away by a gust of wind and ends up in the ocean where he reaches the end of his journey. As we follow him down whilst he sinks, we get to see the consequences us humans are having on the world and it’s creatures due to the lack of awareness.
Just as we think his journey has ended, we start to rewind back through time, bringing us back to when he first got ordered from the café. Instead of choosing the disposable cup which the customer first had, he whips out his re-usable coffee cup. As a result, the disposable coffee cup avoids a miserable future thanks to the customer deciding on a more sustainable option.
