Light of the Box
This body of work explores the concept of stereotyping within social space and putting people into different categories. It focuses on how we are very quick to make judgements |
about other people, although we have little understanding of them. The idea of first impressions and the process of how we view and label people we know little about contribute to this process of stereotyping. Human figures, the social environment and colour symbolism are key visual elements within this body of work. The box emerged as the most relevant symbol within this work. Materials such as glass are used to communicate the transparent way we view others and the fragility that pervades in our modern world. The transparent material also creates a sense of mystery and delicacy and emphasises the imperceptible gap created between people. Digital, screenprint and monoprint techniques are the primary processes used within this body of work. |
